Today I am chatting with Tahnée Sanders. Tahnée Sanders is a former journalist-turned-marketing strategist who leads female-led businesses to effective marketing strategy. In this episode, we talk all about why you are not getting leads from your website.
What We Discuss In This Episode:
- How Tahnée got started in the online space
- Having a website as a service provider
- Website changes to get more inquiries
- Sit down with someone and have them walk through your website
- Don’t miss the opportunity to get them on your email list
How Tahnée got started in the online space
She started as a journalist at the time that journalism was moving into the online world. Then she moved to Canada for eight years and took a career break. During that time she started working with a lot of small businesses and helping them with their marketing and social media. That was the beginning of a really big career change that led to her starting her own business.
Having a website as a service provider
Yes, you do need a website but you don’t need the whole shebang that costs you $10,000. You need an online presence that validates your expertise more than anything else. It could just be a home page but if it is just going to be a one-pager still make sure it has elements of a whole website in it. Depending on your industry it can be valuable to include starting from prices on your website to filter for your perfect client.
Website changes to get more inquiries
The most important thing is that your header needs to tell people who you are, what you do, and how it helps them. Your website header also needs to have a very clear call to action about your services and what they do to get them. They need to be able to figure out if they are a good fit by going through your website. Have the call to action and tell them what to do to get your help. Put a face to your business. Your about me page should be all about how you can help your customers.
Sit down with someone and have them walk through your website
Sit down with the closest person you have to your ideal client even if it has to be your friend and watch them go through your website. Ask them to talk out loud to you about what they are thinking and watch how they use it. Often things that are so obvious to us are not to other people or not the way they use websites. If your website is not converting, don’t start all over. Find the little tweaks you can make. Often it is your copy or the marketing ecosystem that surrounds your website.
Don’t miss the opportunity to get them on your email list
The contact form or scheduling a call is quite an active action for someone to take. It is important to remember the person that might not be ready for us right now but could be in 6 months’ time and that is where your lead magnet comes in. Don’t miss the opportunity to get them onto your email list even if they are not yet ready to book a service so you can continue to nurture them.
Guest Bio:
Tahnée Sanders is a former journalist-turned-marketing strategist who leads female-led businesses to effective marketing strategy. As the founder of The Strategy Studio, she applies real-world approaches to marketing for creatives looking to connect with more of their ideal clients so they can charge what their expertise is worth and ultimately run more profitable, sustainable businesses.
Tahnée began her career quite literally off the beaten path in a small Australian mining town, where she was the country’s youngest daily newspaper editor. In one of many bold steps, Tahnée left her career in journalism and set off to travel to the Americas. A one year plan would turn into nearly a decade abroad.
After trading her marketing and copywriting services to a small florist shop in Canada in exchange for knowledge on floristry, Tahnée was catapulted into the wedding industry. She went on to learn all the things about flowers and styling and serve as a content strategist for wedding inspiration leader Once Wed, as well as If I Made, one of the first online learning companies for creative entrepreneurs.
When she became a new mom in 2017, she knew she wanted to pivot toward a life that fulfilled her and provided more flexibility.
Since 2019, Tahnée has supported more than 100 small businesses through her strategy sessions, Done-In-A-Day copywriting service and group coaching. She has also been featured on shows like If I Made a Podcast and has been a contributor for Fairfax Media and Real Weddings Magazine, as well as a speaker at summits like the 2022 Simply Business Summit, among others.
Beyond marketing, Tahnée never regrets any ocean swim, even in winter, and she always carries around floral clippers for “civic pruning,” which later are transformed into spontaneous home floral arrangements. She also loves reading, trail running, and family bike rides with her husband and two children.
